Things to Do

Whale watching in Provincetown

Whales have always been a part of Provincetown—you can catch glimpses from the beaches—so it’s not surprising that whale watching began here. Whale watching started in 1975 when a fisherman named Al Avellar teamed up with Charles Mayo, a marine biologist from the Provincetown Center of Coastal Studies. A few people turned into thousands, and whale watching has since become one of the Town’s most popular activities.

Provincetown Beaches & Parks

Provincetown beaches and parks stretch for miles with many a part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Within the National Seashore, you’ll find Herring Cove Beach and Race Point Beach. Both have been called some of the best beaches on the Cape by Travel + Leisure and TripAdvisor.

Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum

The Pilgrim Monument was founded in 1892 as the Cape Cod Pilgrim Memorial Association—Cape Cod’s oldest not-for-profit organization. Its purpose is to commemorate the Mayflower Pilgrims’ first landing in the New World in Provincetown, in November 1620.

Provincetown Art Association and Museum

The Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) is a nationally recognized, year-round cultural institution that fuses the creative energy of America’s oldest continuous art colony with the natural beauty of outer Cape Cod that has inspired artists for generations.
